I’ve been thinking of a Vietnam Memorial to the young black men who are dying in the streets of New Orleans on a daily basis. But once you etch the names in stone, you are saying this is a thing of the past. And it is not. It is yesterday, today, and I always hope not tomorrow. A fellow writer/poet/blogger has created a living, breathing, New Orleans War Memorial, and is about to complete 2012. He has his work cut out for him.

2013 is a work in progress.
Sit with this grief and you will come to hear the collective sighs of mothers, fathers, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, grandmothers and grandfathers, friends and lovers, and those of us on the sidelines as we watch in horror.
